The DayStar DS2MD is a premium 2-inch dielectric mirror diagonal — the angled piece that redirects the light path 90° so you can look into the eyepiece comfortably instead of craning under the telescope. Its dielectric-coated mirror reflects about 99% of incoming light, noticeably more than standard enhanced-aluminum (~88%) or silver (~96–97%) coatings, for brighter, higher-contrast views without changing your optics.

Who it's for
Refractor or Cassegrain (SCT/Mak) owners upgrading from a prism or aluminum diagonal who want brighter, sharper views. New to accessories? See our guide to the accessories every beginner needs.

  • 99% dielectric mirror: reflects more light than aluminum or silver coatings for brighter, higher-contrast views.
  • 2-inch and 1.25-inch: accepts 2" eyepieces; includes a 2"–1.25" step-down adapter.
  • Brass compression rings: grip eyepiece barrels securely without scratching.
  • Filter-threaded: barrel and adapter take standard 2" filters.
  • For refractors & Cassegrains: works with refractors, SCTs, and Maksutovs — not Newtonian or Dobsonian reflectors.

What's in the Box 2" dielectric mirror diagonal, 2"–1.25" step-down adapter with compression ring

Will it fit my telescope?
It suits refractors and Cassegrain-type scopes (SCT, Maksutov) with a 2" focuser or visual back. It is not used on Newtonian or Dobsonian reflectors.

Can I use 1.25-inch eyepieces?
Yes — the included 2"–1.25" step-down adapter accepts 1.25" eyepieces.

Why choose dielectric over a standard mirror?
Dielectric coatings reflect about 99% of light versus ~88% for enhanced aluminum, giving brighter, higher-contrast views with no change to your telescope.
