The Explore Scientific 82° Long Eye Relief (LER) Waterproof Eyepiece Series delivers immersive, wide-field views with the comfort of generous eye relief. The expansive 82° apparent field of view gives a true "space-walk" experience, while long eye relief makes these telescope eyepieces comfortable for eyeglass wearers and long observing sessions alike.

Fully multi-coated, edge-blackened optics produce bright, high-contrast images, and the argon-purged, waterproof housings seal out fog, dust, and moisture for lasting performance in the field.

Who it's for

Intermediate and advanced stargazers — and anyone who observes with glasses — who want a wide, comfortable field for deep-sky, lunar, and planetary viewing. New to eyepieces? See our guide on how to pick the proper telescope eyepiece.

Key features

  • 82° apparent field of view for an immersive, wide-field experience
  • Long eye relief — comfortable viewing, including with eyeglasses
  • Fully multi-coated, edge-blackened optics for bright, high-contrast images
  • Argon-purged, waterproof housing resists fogging, dust, and moisture
  • Parfocal series design — little to no refocusing when swapping focal lengths
  • 1.25" barrels (4.5–14mm) and 2" barrels (18–30mm), threaded for standard filters

Choosing your focal length

Short focal lengths (4.5–8.5mm) give high magnification for planets and the Moon; mid lengths (11–18mm) suit general deep-sky observing; longer lengths (24–30mm) give low-power, wide views for large nebulae and star fields. The shorter models use a 1.25" barrel and the longer three use a 2" barrel.

Frequently asked questions

What barrel size do these use?
The 4.5mm through 14mm use a standard 1.25" barrel; the 18mm, 24mm, and 30mm use a 2" barrel. Both are threaded for their respective filters.

Why choose 82° with long eye relief?
The 82° field is wide and immersive, and the long eye relief means you don't have to press your eye against the lens — much more comfortable for long sessions and for anyone who wears glasses.

How does this compare to the 100° series?
The 100° series is even wider and more immersive (and more expensive); the 82° LER series offers a very wide view with excellent eye comfort at a more accessible price.

Are they parfocal?
Yes — the 82° eyepieces are parfocal with each other, so you only need a slight focus tweak when switching focal lengths.
