The Explore One Aries is exactly what a first telescope for a child should be: compact enough for a kid to carry outside alone, stable on a real full-size tripod, easy to aim with one hand on the panhandle, and rewarding enough on the very first night to make them want to come back out again.

Unlike toy telescopes that produce blurry, dim views and immediately disappoint, the Aries delivers genuine astronomical results. Its 50mm lens and 600mm focal length produce sharp views at both included eyepieces — 30× for wide-field star sweeps and finding objects, and 48× for closer looks at the Moon and planets. A red dot finder makes aiming accurate without guesswork, the panhandle mount lets young observers steer naturally, and the printed star map gives them something to hold and learn from while they're outside.

What you'll see

  • The Moon — craters and mountain ranges, easy to find and stunning in detail
  • Saturn's rings — visible on clear nights at 48×, an unforgettable first view for any kid
  • Jupiter's moons — spot up to four Galilean moons as dots beside the planet
  • Double stars — pairs separated into two distinct pinpoints at 48×

Frequently asked questions

What age is the Aries right for?
Kids aged 7 and up can use it comfortably with an adult alongside. By 10–12, most kids can set it up and use it independently. The panhandle mount is especially intuitive — it moves like a camera rather than a mechanical knob system.

What does a red dot finder do?
A red dot finder projects a small red dot onto a see-through window. You line up that dot with the object you want to observe, and it will appear (roughly) in the telescope's eyepiece. It's much faster than guessing where to point the scope, especially for beginners who haven't yet learned to navigate by star-hopping.

How does 48× compare to what you'd see with the naked eye?
At 48×, the Moon fills most of your field of view and individual craters are clearly distinct. Saturn's rings are unmistakably visible and separated from the disk. It's a large enough magnification to feel genuinely impressive without being so high that image quality suffers.

Is this appropriate for an adult beginner too?
Absolutely. The Aries is marketed toward kids but works well for any beginner. The full-size tripod means you're not hunched over, and the included accessories cover everything you need to start observing properly from night one.
