The Explore Scientific 102mm FCD100 is a premium-grade fluorite apochromat for observers and astrophotographers who want the best color correction available in a 102mm instrument. The HOYA FCD100 ED glass delivers a step above standard ED apochromats — tighter color correction, higher contrast, and the kind of star field sharpness that makes fine planetary images possible.

The 2.5" HEX focuser is built for imaging — it handles heavy camera setups without flexing, making this the right choice if your goal is wide-field astrophotography or high-resolution planetary imaging with a larger sensor.

What you'll see (and image):

  • Planets in true color — pin-sharp Saturn rings, Jupiter cloud structure, crisp color boundaries
  • Deep-sky targets with tight, well-corrected stars across a wide image circle
  • Double stars with accurate color rendering — A-type stars look white, K-type look orange
  • Emission nebulae, star clusters, and galaxies at their best optical performance in this aperture class

What's in the box:

  • 102mm f/7 FCD100 triplet APO OTA — air-spaced triplet with HOYA FCD100 ED glass, fully multi-coated
  • 2.5" HEX rack-and-pinion focuser (dual-speed capable) — supports heavier imaging accessories without flex
  • Retractable dew shield — keeps dew off the objective and collapses for compact storage
  • Dual tube rings with Vixen-style dovetail — balances across a wide range of mounts

Note: No diagonal or eyepiece included. This is a premium imaging and visual OTA — you'll need your own 2" diagonal, eyepieces, and mount. For imaging, pair with a quality equatorial or GoTo platform for best results.

Specs:

Aperture 102mm — resolves ~1.14 arcseconds; capable for high-resolution planetary imaging
Focal Length 714mm
Focal Ratio f/7 — versatile for planetary and wide-field deep-sky imaging
Optical Design Air-spaced triplet APO, HOYA FCD100 ED glass — premium fluorite-grade correction
Focuser 2.5" HEX rack-and-pinion, dual-speed capable — handles heavy imaging loads without flexing

The best optical performance in a 102mm refractor — for observers who won't accept color fringing and imagers who need a focuser that doesn't flex.
