A versatile 102mm grab-and-go refractor that's genuinely ready to mount out of the box — diagonal, finderscope, and Vixen dovetail all included. The Explore Scientific 102mm f/6.5 Achromat is a solid performer for visual astronomy and a capable entry point into wide-field astrophotography, without the premium price of an apochromat.

The 102mm aperture and f/6.5 focal ratio give you wide, bright fields for sweeping deep-sky objects while still having enough focal length to show planetary detail. The 2" dual-speed Crayford focuser is a meaningful step up from basic rack-and-pinion focusers — precise, slip-free, and comfortable to use at any magnification.

What you'll see:

  • The Moon — craters, rilles, and mountain ranges in excellent detail
  • Saturn's rings and Cassini Division, with 4–5 moons visible under good conditions
  • Jupiter's cloud bands, festoons, and the four Galilean moons
  • Open clusters in wide, bright views; globular clusters resolving at the edges
  • The Orion Nebula and other bright deep-sky objects with visible nebulosity
  • Wide-field star fields — this focal ratio excels at sweeping the Milky Way

What's in the box:

  • 102mm f/6.5 achromat refractor OTA — air-spaced doublet with fully coated optics
  • 2" dual-speed Crayford focuser — smooth, precise focus with coarse and fine adjustment
  • 2" dielectric diagonal with 1.25" adapter — high-reflectivity mirror for bright, accurate color
  • 8×50 finderscope — magnified finder for accurate target acquisition
  • Vixen-style dovetail with cradle rings — fits most standard equatorial and alt-az mounts

Note: No eyepiece included — this is an OTA (optical tube assembly). You'll need at least one 1.25" or 2" eyepiece to observe.

Specs:

Aperture 102mm — capable of splitting close double stars and resolving planetary detail
Focal Length 663mm
Focal Ratio f/6.5 — wide enough for bright deep-sky fields, long enough for planets

Focuser 2" dual-speed Crayford — coarse and fine adjustment, no slipping
Finderscope 8×50 straight-through — magnified finder for accurate centering
Mount Interface Vixen-style dovetail + cradle rings — fits most standard mounts
OTA Weight ~5.2 kg

A well-equipped, genuinely versatile refractor OTA — great for visual astronomy and a strong starting point for astrophotography.
