The Explore Scientific 127mm f/6.5 achromat refractor is one of the most versatile wide-field telescopes you can buy for the price — a 5-inch achromatic doublet that delivers bright, high-contrast views of nebulae, star clusters, the Milky Way, and the Moon without the complexity of mirrors or collimation. The f/6.5 focal ratio keeps the tube at a manageable length while the 826mm focal length gives you enough magnification range for broad sweeps and close-up planetary detail.

As an OTA (optical tube assembly), this scope pairs with your existing mount via Vixen-style cradle rings and a dovetail — compatible with virtually any alt-az or equatorial mount on the market. Everything you need to start observing is included: a 2" dielectric diagonal, dual-speed Crayford focuser, and 8×50 straight-through finder scope.

What you'll see:

  • Open star clusters — Pleiades, Hyades, and Beehive all fit beautifully in the wide field
  • Emission nebulae — Orion Nebula (M42) shows the Trapezium star cluster and surrounding glowing gas
  • The Milky Way — vast star-field sweeps with rich lane structure visible
  • The Moon — crisp crater walls, mountain ridges, and lava plains
  • Jupiter and Saturn — disc and ring detail, though a longer focal-ratio scope excels more here

What's in the box:

  • 127mm achromatic doublet optical tube — the main scope with retractable dew shield
  • 2" dual-speed Crayford focuser — large coarse knob and small fine-tuning knob for precise focus
  • 2" dielectric diagonal with 1.25" adapter — the angled viewer that puts your eye in a comfortable position
  • 8×50 straight-through finder scope with quick-release hybrid base — find your targets, then zoom in
  • Vixen-style cradle rings and dovetail bar — attaches to most equatorial and alt-az mounts

Specs:

Aperture 127mm — 5 inches, significantly more light than a 4" scope
Focal Length 826mm — good range from wide sweeps to planetary magnifications
Focal Ratio f/6.5 — manageable tube length for an achromat this size
Optical Design Air-spaced achromatic doublet — two-element lens; some colour fringing at very high power
Focuser 2" dual-speed Crayford — compatible with all standard eyepieces and accessories
Diagonal 2" dielectric (with 1.25" adapter) — high-reflectivity coating for bright views
Finder 8×50 straight-through — bright, wide field for star-hopping
Mount Interface Vixen-style dovetail — fits most alt-az and equatorial mounts
Tube Length (with dew shield) ~863mm
OTA Weight ~7.1 kg

Add a capable, no-fuss wide-field refractor to your mount — the DAR127065-02 delivers impressive views from your very first night under the stars.
