One kit, two universes. The National Geographic 50mm Telescope & 640x Microscope Set with Hard Case gives beginners everything they need to explore both the night sky and the hidden world of microscopic life — packed securely in a durable carrying case so it goes wherever curiosity leads.

Unlike single-purpose starter kits, this set covers two completely different sciences in one purchase. The 50mm refractor lets you observe the Moon's craters, Jupiter's moons, and distant star clusters. Switch to the microscope and you're examining pond water, plant cells, or bug anatomy at up to 640×. It's an ideal gift for curious kids or adults who want to try both without committing to one first.

What you'll see

  • The Moon — craters, mare plains, and mountain ranges through the telescope
  • Jupiter — its four Galilean moons clearly visible at 60×
  • Pond life & cells — bacteria, algae, and protozoa at 40×–640× through the microscope
  • Star clusters — the Pleiades and other bright clusters during clear nights

Frequently asked questions

Is this set good for a child?
Yes, it's designed with beginners and young scientists in mind. Both the telescope and microscope are easy to set up and use without prior experience. The hard case also makes transport and storage hassle-free.

What can the microscope see at 640×?
At the maximum 640× (16× eyepiece + 40× objective), you can clearly see individual cells, bacteria, algae, small organisms from pond water, and fine structure in thin cross-sections. It's more than enough for school projects and home science exploration.

Can the telescope be used for daytime viewing?
Yes. The 50mm refractor works well for daytime nature observation — birds, landscapes, and distant objects. Just be careful never to point it at the Sun without a proper solar filter.

Does the hard case hold everything?
Yes — the telescope, microscope, eyepieces, slides, and accessories all fit into the included hard case, making storage and transport easy.
