The Explore Scientific L-Pro 2-inch broadband light pollution filter helps you image deep-sky objects from less-than-perfect skies. Unlike narrowband filters aimed only at nebulae, this broadband filter gently blocks the common wavelengths of artificial light pollution while letting through a wide range of useful starlight — so galaxies, star clusters, and nebulae all keep natural color.

This Optolong-made multi-bandpass filter suppresses the yellow-orange glow of streetlights and skyglow, improving contrast across broadband targets without the heavy color shift of aggressive filters.

Who it's for

Great for astrophotographers imaging a mix of galaxies, clusters, and nebulae from suburban skies who want balanced, natural-looking results. New to imaging? See our astronomy 101 stargazing basics guide.

Key features

  • Broadband multi-bandpass design that blocks light pollution while passing useful starlight.
  • Natural color balance for galaxies, clusters, and nebulae alike.
  • Versatile deep-sky use beyond emission nebulae only.
  • One-shot-color compatible with DSLRs and color astro cameras.
  • Standard 2-inch threaded cell for 2-inch filter wheels and accessories.

Frequently asked questions

How is L-Pro different from L-eNhance or L-eXtreme?
L-Pro is a broadband filter that keeps natural color across galaxies, clusters, and nebulae, while L-eNhance and L-eXtreme are narrowband filters focused on emission nebulae only.

Does it work with a DSLR?
Yes, it's suited to one-shot-color cameras including DSLRs and color astro cameras.

Will it fully remove light pollution?
No filter removes light pollution entirely, but the L-Pro noticeably improves contrast under suburban skies while preserving natural color.
