The DayStar 480E is a versatile 80mm refractor telescope that works great for night-time stargazing and doubles as a ready-made host for a DayStar Quark solar filter. Its f/6 focal ratio falls right in the Quark's compatibility window, so no external energy-rejection filter (ERF) is needed — just attach and observe.

Does it come with a mount?
No — this is an optical tube (OTA) with a carrying case. It uses a Vixen-style dovetail that fits most standard alt-az or equatorial mounts.

Can I use it as a solar telescope?
Yes, by adding a DayStar Quark. Its f/6 ratio is within the Quark's window, so no external ERF is required. Never point it at the Sun without proper solar equipment.

Is a diagonal included?
No. A 2-inch star diagonal makes viewing more comfortable and is available separately.

Will I see color around bright objects?
As a fast achromat, a little violet fringing can appear on the Moon or bright planets — normal for this design and easily tolerated.
