The DayStar SR 127mm is a serious step up in dedicated solar observing. Built around a 127mm optical tube with a Quantum-class H-alpha etalon and a 0.04nm bandpass, the SR127QTP is a high-resolution Prominence-mode solar telescope that delivers observatory-level views of the Sun's limb without the complexity of a separate filter chain. If you've outgrown smaller solar scopes and want to see what prominence structure actually looks like at high resolution, this is the instrument.

The jump from 80mm to 127mm is not subtle in solar astronomy — fine prominence detail and spicule structure that are suggested in smaller scopes become clearly resolved here.

What you'll see:

  • Solar prominences in high resolution — fine internal structure within plasma arcs visible at the limb
  • Limb spicules — the dense forest of fiery jets at the solar edge, individually distinguished
  • Erupting prominences — dynamic features that visibly evolve and move over minutes
  • Fine magnetic structure at the solar limb — detail that 60–80mm apertures blur into suggestions

What's in the box:

  • SR127QTP OTA — 127mm dedicated H-alpha telescope with integrated Quantum-class etalon, Prominence mode
  • Solar Bullet finder — safe solar finder for pointing without looking through the eyepiece
  • Vixen/photo mounting foot — attaches to most standard equatorial and alt-az mounts

Advanced note: This is a high-resolution solar instrument. A tracking equatorial mount is strongly recommended to hold the Sun steady at the magnifications this aperture handles well. If you're stepping up from a Scout-series scope, expect a genuine leap in prominence detail and contrast.

Specs:

Aperture 127mm — substantially more resolution than 80mm solar scopes for fine limb detail
Effective Focal Length ~1,355mm (with focal reducer)
Bandpass 0.04nm (0.4Å) — Quantum-class, tight enough to resolve fine chromospheric structure
Etalon Grade Quantum — DayStar's high-performance etalon class
Observing Mode Prominence — optimized for solar limb features and erupting plasma
ERF Required No — fully solar-safe as delivered

A dedicated solar instrument that can genuinely resolve fine prominence structure — for observers ready to take solar astronomy seriously. Ships free in the US.
