The Explore Scientific 10-inch f/5 hybrid truss tube Dobsonian telescope delivers big-aperture, deep-sky performance in a portable package. A Dobsonian telescope is a large Newtonian reflector on a simple, stable base that you nudge by hand — the most light-gathering you can get for the money. This hybrid design adds a solid upper tube to protect the secondary mirror while keeping the collapsible truss section for easy transport and tool-free setup.

Its 254mm (10-inch) mirror gathers a huge amount of light, and the 1270mm focal length (f/5) balances bright, wide views with the resolution to reveal fine detail.

Who it's for

Ideal for dedicated visual observers who want maximum aperture for galaxies and nebulae but still need a scope that packs down for travel. New to the hobby? See our guide on how to pick your first telescope.

Key features

  • 10-inch (254mm) aperture for bright, detailed deep-sky views.
  • Hybrid truss design with a solid upper tube for protection plus a collapsible truss for portability.
  • f/5 optics (1270mm focal length) balancing wide field and resolution.
  • Tool-free assembly and a smooth, stable Dobsonian base.
  • 2.5-inch hex focuser for precise focusing of your eyepieces.

What you'll see

With 10 inches of aperture, this Dobsonian pulls in faint galaxies, globular clusters resolved into pinpoint stars, and the intricate structure of nebulae like Orion. Planets show cloud belts, Saturn's rings, and Cassini's division on steady nights, while the Moon reveals crater detail down to fine ridges and rilles. Darker skies unlock even more.

Frequently asked questions

Why choose a Dobsonian?
Dobsonians give the most aperture (light-gathering) per dollar, making them the best value for seeing faint deep-sky objects, with a simple push-to-aim base.

Is it portable?
Yes. The hybrid truss section collapses for transport and sets up without tools, unlike a bulky solid-tube 10-inch.

Is it good for beginners?
It's beginner-friendly to operate, though its size suits observers ready to commit to a larger, more capable scope.
