The Explore Scientific 72° ED 30mm is a premium 2" telescope eyepiece that delivers the widest, brightest low-power views in the 72° ED series. An eyepiece sets your magnification — this long 30mm keeps power low so faint objects stay bright — and its 2" barrel with a wide 72° apparent field is made for drinking in big nebulae, sprawling open clusters and rich Milky Way starfields.

Extra-low-dispersion (ED) glass keeps colours tightly focused for sharp, high-contrast views, and the eyepiece is fully waterproof and argon-purged so it won't fog internally in cold or damp conditions.

Who it's for: Observers with a 2" focuser or diagonal who want the widest possible true field for deep-sky sweeping and starfields. Not sure which focal length to pick? Read our guide to choosing the proper telescope eyepiece.

  • 2" wide-field design: the largest field in the series for expansive, low-power views.
  • 72° apparent field: immersive framing of the biggest deep-sky objects and star fields.
  • ED glass optics: extra-low-dispersion elements for sharp, colour-corrected detail.
  • Low-power 30mm: keeps faint nebulae and clusters bright and full of context.
  • Waterproof & argon-purged: sealed against fogging and moisture for all-weather use.

What magnification will I get?
Divide your telescope's focal length by 30. For example, a 900mm scope gives about 30x with this eyepiece.

Why choose the 30mm?
It offers the widest true field and lowest power in the series, ideal for the largest nebulae, big open clusters and rich Milky Way sweeps.

Why does ED glass matter in an eyepiece?
Extra-low-dispersion glass controls colour and improves sharpness, especially toward the edge of a very wide field.

Does it fit my telescope?
It requires a 2" focuser or diagonal to use its full field.
