This Explore Scientific FCD100 80mm APO astrophotography kit bundles a premium triplet apochromatic refractor telescope with a 0.8x focal reducer and the computerized iEXOS-100 GoTo mount — a complete deep-sky imaging package (just add a camera). The triplet uses high-grade Hoya FCD100 extra-low-dispersion glass for outstanding colour correction and exceptionally sharp stars, while the 0.8x reducer speeds up and widens the optics for faster, larger-field exposures.

With an 80mm aperture and 480mm focal length (f/6), the 0.8x reducer takes it to roughly 384mm at f/4.8 — fast and wide for large nebulae and galaxies. The iEXOS-100 is a portable WiFi GoTo German equatorial mount that automatically finds and tracks targets through long exposures.

Who it's for: Astrophotographers who want premium optics in a fast, wide-field, complete imaging kit. Learn the fundamentals in our beginner's guide to astrophotography.

  • FCD100 triplet optics: premium Hoya FCD100 ED glass for outstanding colour correction.
  • 0.8x focal reducer: speeds the system to about f/4.8 and widens the field for faster imaging.
  • 80mm f/6 native: 480mm focal length, ~384mm with the reducer fitted.
  • iEXOS-100 GoTo mount: WiFi equatorial mount that finds and tracks objects automatically.
  • Complete imaging kit: OTA, reducer and tracking mount ready to shoot.

What you'll see: With the reducer fitted this premium fast, wide field excels on large deep-sky targets — sprawling nebulae, big galaxies and rich star clusters — captured with exceptional sharpness and colour, tracked steadily by the GoTo mount. Visually the FCD100 gives beautifully sharp, colour-true lunar, planetary and star-field views.

How is FCD100 different from a standard ED triplet?
FCD100 is a premium extra-low-dispersion glass that improves colour correction further, giving cleaner, sharper stars — a noticeable step up in optical quality.

What does the 0.8x reducer do?
It shortens the focal length and speeds the focal ratio for a wider field and faster exposures on deep-sky targets.

Is this a complete astrophotography setup?
Almost — it includes the FCD100 triplet OTA, the 0.8x reducer and a GoTo tracking mount. You add a camera and the appropriate adapter.

What does the iEXOS-100 GoTo mount do?
It automatically slews to objects and tracks them as the sky moves, which is essential for long-exposure imaging.
