The Explore Scientific HR Variable Coma Corrector (2") eliminates coma — the comet-like star distortion that appears toward the edges of the field in fast Newtonian reflectors. The result is pinpoint stars across the whole frame, both visually and in astrophotography, and its adjustable design lets you optimize correction for different focal ratios. This version includes camera adapters for imaging.

Who it's for

Owners of fast Newtonian reflectors (around f/4–f/5) who want sharp, coma-free stars to the edge for visual use and imaging. New to imaging? See our astrophotography for beginners guide.

Key features

  • Eliminates edge-of-field coma in fast Newtonian reflectors
  • Variable/adjustable correction for different focal ratios
  • Pinpoint stars edge to edge, visual and photographic
  • Includes camera adapters for astrophotography
  • Standard 2" fitting

Frequently asked questions

What is coma?
Coma makes stars near the edge of the field look like little comets in fast reflectors. A coma corrector restores them to sharp points across the whole view.

Do I need one?
If you use a fast Newtonian (around f/4–f/5), a coma corrector noticeably improves edge sharpness — especially important for astrophotography.

What's the difference from the HRCC02-01?
This HRCC02-00 includes camera adapters; the HRCC02-01 is the same corrector without the camera adapters, at a lower price.
