This Explore Scientific two-speed focus knob is a precise micro-focus upgrade for the 2.5" HEX focuser found on Explore FirstLight and select Bresser Messier telescopes. A telescope focuser is what moves the eyepiece in and out to sharpen the view, and a dual-speed knob adds a second, much slower gear so you can nail perfect focus at high magnification.

With a 10:1 reduction ratio, one knob gives you a fast coarse focus and an ultra-fine focus in the same smooth motion — a small change that makes a big difference on planets, the Moon and for astrophotography.

What does a two-speed knob actually do?
It adds a slower 10:1 fine-focus gear alongside the standard coarse focus, so you can make tiny, precise adjustments to sharpen the image.

Do I need this for astrophotography?
It's highly recommended. Fine focus is critical when imaging, and the 10:1 mechanism makes it much easier to hit a sharp point of focus.

Is it hard to install?
No. It replaces the existing focus knob on a compatible HEX focuser and requires only basic hand tools.
