Go Wider and Faster on Your Vixen ED Refractor — From f/7.7 Down to f/5.2

The Focal Reducer for F7.7 ED reduces your telescope's focal length by 0.67×, compressing a long f/7.7 imaging system down to f/5.2 — a faster focal ratio that means shorter exposure times and a wider field of view. Large nebulae and star clusters that would barely fit in frame at full focal length suddenly become much easier to capture in a single shot.

Effective focal length conversions:

  • ED81S / ED81S II: 625mm (f/7.7) → 419mm (f/5.2)
  • ED103S: 795mm (f/7.7) → 533mm (f/5.2)
  • ED115S: 890mm (f/7.7) → 596mm (f/5.2)

For imaging only — not suitable for visual observing.

Required accessories (sold separately): Wide Photo Adapter 60mm General Type (ES3878) and a T-ring for your specific camera mount. The reducer screws into the Wide Photo Adapter, which then connects to your camera; the combined assembly threads into the focuser drawtube.

Who This Is For

  • ED81S, ED81S II, ED103S, or ED115S owners doing deep-sky astrophotography who want wider fields and shorter exposures
  • Imagers who find their full-focal-length ED scope too tight for large targets like the Orion Nebula, Andromeda Galaxy, or the Pleiades
